San Diego School Johnson Elementary Get Happy Meals

U-Stor-It Holds 2nd Annual Event for San Diego School Johnson Elementary

Students at San Diego School Johnson Elementary had something more to be excited about than it just being their last day of school. Similar to the backpack event held last August in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, U-Stor-It Self Storage decided to treat the students of Johnson Elementary to a fun day of activities, making it their 2nd annual event with Johnson Elementary. To stay energized, a total of 160 McDonald’s Happy Meals were provided to the kindergarten students. The Happy Meals included milk or juice, a free beanie baby toy, and of course, French Fries! (because it’s just not a Happy Meal without the fries)

Some of the festivities included a dance party, balloon games, chalk drawings, and more. There were a total of 5 kindergarten classes that attended the event, and 5 of U-Stor-It’s corporate volunteers were involved.

“It was great to work with the Johnson Elementary School again, and to be able to give back”, said Blake Johnston, Marketing Manager for U-Stor-It.

“We really appreciate what U-Stor-It has done for our students with these events”, remarks Ms. Williams, one of the teachers at Johnson Elementary.
This is the first of several events that the San Diego area can be expecting this summer. Keep an eye out and make sure you don’t miss any of these future events by following our blog!

U-Stor-It to Beautify Lincoln Park, San Diego Community

The typical story: a corporation comes in, constructs a massive building, and takes advantage of the surrounding community. What if it didn’t have to be that way? U-Stor-It doesn’t think so—in fact they strive for quite the opposite. Coming soon, U-Stor-It Lincoln Park will be investing in landscaping and beautification of the surrounding Lincoln Park, San Diego neighborhood. Efforts will include planting and maintaining flowers and shrubbery, painting over graffiti, and cleaning up the streets and walkways.

“It’s a great opportunity to give back,” Blake Johnston, Marketing Manager stated. “We have been extremely grateful for the support of our service in the area. The Lincoln Park location is our first building in California, and it gives us a lot of pride to be a part of the local culture.”

Currently the street lines could use an upgrade. Plant life is minimal and dull; there is a lot of opportunity here. Some retaining walls and fences have old graffiti tainting the surrounding image. Plans are not confirmed yet, but there are numerous ideas being considered.

  • Bright flowers will make the street sides beautiful and eye catching.
  • Other various shrubs or small trees will instantly create a view that fits closer with the true character of San Diego.
  • Lastly, removing the graffiti will dramatically change the atmosphere; long term solutions to keeping graffiti away are an important part of considerations.

U-Stor-It Donates $2000 to Monarch School for Homeless Children
By Barron Lutes
San Diego, CA – Last December, after matching a Talonvest donation of $1000, members of the Lincoln Park U-Stor-It team were invited to see firsthand the behind the scenes magic of Monarch School.

The Lincoln Park team got to tour the entire camous, and learn all about the culture of the school as well as the difficulties homeless children face daily.

The staff was impressed to find classes are very project and skill oriented. For instance, geometry is paired with woodworking class to stress the application to the real world. This dynamic helps students prepare for life outside of school by both creating a fun and growth-oriented educational experience, and allowing students to explore various career pathways along the way.

“It’s great to know that the money donated is going to such an amazing cause!” – Blake, U-Stor-It Marketing Manager

Monarch School needs your help too! Their annual fundraiser is approaching fast. The school will provide hors d’oeurves, craft beer, wine, a live auction, and student performances. The event is $150 per person all going directly towards the school’s education objectives.

South Loop U-Stor-It Supports Student Fundraiser

U-Stor-It  South Loop is proud to support Columbia College Chicago’s 25th Annual “Jammin’ with Jane” student-run event. Hosted each year by the school’s Events & Promotion course under the Business & Entrepreneurship Department, students choose a specific organization to host a fundraising event. Students then plan, develop, and execute the event as part of their classroom final exam assignment, handling all publicity, promotion, marketing, event organization and entertainment.

This Thursday, May 5th, “‘Jammin’ with Jane” will be benefiting two organizations: The St. Nicholas Orphanage Fund, and the Andrew Weishar Foundation (AWF).

St. Nicholas Orphanage Fund is a nonprofit organization that supports over 35 orphanage-type facilities and halfway centers that house orphans and abandoned children throughout Ukraine. The goal is to provide humanitarian aid, general medicine, and school supplies to these facilities and to develop needed projects with them in order to improve the children’s quality of life. Its mission is to help bring awareness of the conditions, and even send individuals to visit each year.

The Andrew Weishar Foundation (AWF) is a nonprofit organization created to honor the memory of Andrew Weishar and his legacy of helping others to live with faith, courage, and strength. Their mission is to provide immediate resources to families with adolescents or young adults stricken with cancer. They provide financial assistance to these families in need and dedicate themselves to these acts of kindness and generosity.

“Jammin’ with Jane” will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at the 101 Gallery at 33 E. Congress Pkwy. in Chicago from 6:00 PM- 8:00 PM.
